About this tool

Base32 Encoder / Decoder converts text into the RFC 4648 Base32 alphabet of capital letters A to Z and digits 2 to 7, with equals signs as padding. Decoding reverses the process and reports invalid characters instead of producing garbled output.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Base32 output end with equals signs?

The equals signs are padding. They fill the final group out to a multiple of eight characters so decoders know exactly where the data ends.

Why Base32 instead of Base64?

Base32 uses only capital letters and digits 2 to 7, so it works in systems that are case-insensitive or restrict their character set.
