Time Blocking: Give Every Task Its Own Slot

Time blocking works because a task without a slot is a task that drifts. Splitting hours evenly gives every task a fair starting share.

What is the Time Blocking Planner?

List your tasks one per line and enter the hours you have, and the tool divides the time evenly and lists each block in order. It is a planning aid, not a schedule that knows your deadlines, so move blocks around for urgent work.

How to use it

  1. List your tasks, one per line.
  2. Enter the hours you have.
  3. Click Plan My Blocks.

Worked example

With 3 tasks and 6 hours, each block is 2 hours: report, emails, then slides.

Should blocks really be equal?

Equal is a starting point. Give more time to the hardest task and less to quick ones once the first draft is on the page.

Frequently asked questions

What if a task overruns its block?

Stop at the block end and note what is left, or swap time from a lower-priority block rather than letting the day slide.

How many blocks fit a day?

Three to five focused blocks suit most days. More than that usually means the blocks are too short to do deep work.
