20-20-20 Eye Timer: Give Your Eyes a Planned Break
Screens do not come with a built-in pause button. A planned cycle of work and short rests makes the break part of the routine instead of an afterthought.
What is the 20-20-20 Eye Strain Timer?
The 20-20-20 idea is simple: after a stretch of screen time, look away for a short rest instead of staring without a break. This tool turns that idea into a timed plan with the work length, rest length, and number of cycles you choose. In the browser a live countdown follows the plan while the page stays open.
How to use it
- Set your work minutes and rest seconds per cycle.
- Choose how many cycles you want.
- Click Start Eye Rest Plan and follow the countdown.
Worked example
With 20 work minutes, 20 rest seconds, and 4 cycles, total screen time is 80 minutes and total rest is about 1.33 minutes.
How much rest does a 4-cycle 20-20-20 plan give?
Four rests of 20 seconds give 80 seconds of rest in total, spread across 80 minutes of screen time.
Frequently asked questions
What should I look at during a rest?
Look away from the screen at something distant and let your eyes relax; the point is a break from close screen focus.
Does it remind me if I close the page?
No. The countdown runs only while the page stays open and does not send notifications outside the browser.
