About this tool
MD5 produces a fixed 32-character hexadecimal fingerprint for any text, computed here with a small pure JavaScript implementation because browsers do not offer MD5 through WebCrypto. The same input always gives the same hash, and the text never leaves your device. MD5 is fast and fine for checksums, but it is broken for security use: collisions are known, so never rely on it for passwords or signatures.
Frequently asked questions
Is MD5 safe for passwords?
No. MD5 is fast and collision-prone, so it is unsuitable for password storage or security signatures; use a modern password-hashing method instead.
What is MD5 still good for?
Simple checksums and change detection, where you just need to know whether two texts or files are identical.
