Hash Type Identifier
Guess which hash algorithm produced a hash, from its length and characters.
Enter your details below.
How to use
- Paste the hash value.
- Click Identify hash.
- Read the guess, and remember it is only a length-based hint.
About this tool
Different hash algorithms produce different fixed lengths, so a 32-character hexadecimal string is a plausible MD5 candidate while a 64-character one points at SHA-256. This tool applies that simple heuristic and labels the result prominently as a GUESS: length alone can never prove which algorithm was used, since any algorithm can be truncated or a random string can match a length by chance.
Frequently asked questions
Can this tool prove which algorithm made a hash?
No. It only compares length and characters, so the result is a guess; confirmation needs the original input or the system that produced the hash.
Why might a known hash come back unknown?
It may use a different encoding, be truncated, or come from a less common algorithm that is not in the built-in length table.
