Word Wrap Guide: Fitting Text Neatly Into Narrow Lines

Learn how word wrapping packs words onto lines without breaking them.

What is the Word Wrap Tool?

This tool rewraps your text so no line is longer than the width you choose, keeping words whole wherever possible. Very long single words that exceed the width stay on their own line rather than being split. It is useful for plain-text notes, emails and narrow layouts.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type your text into the box.
  2. Set the line width in characters.
  3. Click Wrap and read the rewrapped text.

Worked example

For the sample at width 40, the tool wraps the sentence into 3 lines no longer than 40 characters, keeping each word whole.

Why wrap text at all?

Because fixed-width layouts, plain-text emails and narrow columns read better when lines end at a predictable length instead of running on.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to a word longer than the width?

It is placed on its own line whole, rather than being split in the middle.

Does it preserve my original line breaks?

No. Extra whitespace is collapsed first, then the text is rewrapped fresh at your chosen width.
