How SVG Minification Actually Saves Bytes

Most SVG bulk comes from comments, repeated spaces, and over-precise decimals that add nothing visible.

What is the SVG Optimizer?

This tool really minifies your SVG in plain JavaScript: it strips XML comments, collapses whitespace between tags, trims attribute spacing, and shortens long decimals to your chosen precision. Before and after byte counts are shown so you can verify the saving. It does not rasterize or re-draw the artwork.

How to use it

  1. Paste your SVG code
  2. Choose decimal precision
  3. Copy the optimized SVG and check the byte saving

Worked example

Shrinks the sample SVG by removing its comment and extra spaces and shortening 200.000 to 200, with a clear byte saving.

How much can SVG optimization save?

It depends on the file, but comment and whitespace removal alone often saves a visible share, and this tool shows the exact bytes saved.

Frequently asked questions

Does optimization change how the SVG looks?

At normal precision it should look the same; very low precision can shift fine curves, so check the preview.

Is my SVG uploaded anywhere?

No, minification runs on the text you paste, in the page itself.
