Snake Game: Eat, Grow, and Do Not Crash
Snake is pure planning under pressure: every meal makes the next turn harder. The trick is leaving yourself an escape route before you go for the food.
What is the Snake Game?
The snake moves around a grid and grows by one segment each time it eats food. Hitting a wall or the snake's own body ends the run, so plan turns before the tail catches up. In the browser you steer with the arrow keys or the on-screen buttons on a live canvas.
How to use it
- Choose a grid size.
- Click Start Snake.
- Steer with the arrow keys or the on-screen buttons.
- Eat food to grow, and stop before you hit a wall or your tail.
Worked example
On a 12 by 12 grid, three moves right take the snake from length 3 to length 4 as it eats the food at (9, 6).
How do you grow in Snake?
Move the snake's head onto the food square. The snake gains one segment, and a new piece of food appears somewhere else on the grid.
Frequently asked questions
What ends a Snake game?
Running into a wall or into the snake's own body. Food never hurts you; it only makes you longer.
Why does the game get harder as you eat?
A longer tail leaves fewer safe squares, so each new meal needs a wider turning circle.
