Slow Cooker Times: Low to High Without Rewriting the Recipe

A recipe written for low still works on a busy day. Halving the time for high keeps the dish in reach when the morning plan changes.

What is the Slow Cooker Time Converter?

Slow cooker recipes often list only one setting, but the other is a simple multiple away. As a rule of thumb, high takes about half the low time. This converter applies that guide and reminds you that very short cooks and delicate foods do not always convert neatly.

How to use it

  1. Enter the cook time in hours.
  2. Choose the setting the recipe uses.
  3. Click Convert Cook Time for the other setting.

Worked example

8 hours on low converts to about 4 hours on high.

How long is 8 hours on low when cooked on high?

About 4 hours, since high takes roughly half the low time.

Frequently asked questions

Does everything convert cleanly?

Almost everything, but delicate fish and dairy dishes can overcook on high, so check them early.

Can I switch settings halfway?

Yes, but keep track of total heat time rather than assuming the two halves add up neatly.
