Screen Resolution Checker: Screen, Pixel Ratio, and Viewport

Screen size alone does not tell the whole story. The viewport and pixel ratio decide how sharp and roomy a page feels.

What is the Screen Resolution Checker?

Screen Resolution Checker reads your display and browser window sizes so you can tell whether a design, screenshot, or video will fit properly. It reports the full screen resolution, the device pixel ratio for sharpness on high-density displays, and the current viewport size inside the browser. That split matters because a window that is not maximised has a smaller viewport than the screen itself.

How to use it

  1. Open the tool in the browser and window size you want to measure.
  2. Press Check Resolution.
  3. Compare the screen size with the viewport size to see how much space the page really has.

Worked example

Open it in a browser and it reports the resolution, device pixel ratio, and current viewport size side by side.

How do screen resolution and viewport differ?

Resolution is the full display size. Viewport is the smaller area inside the browser window that a page actually occupies.

Frequently asked questions

What is device pixel ratio?

It is how many physical pixels make up one CSS pixel. A ratio of 2 means a sharper, high-density display.

Why is the viewport smaller than the screen?

Browser chrome, sidebars, and a non-maximised window all shrink the area a page can use.
