Picking a colour from your screen
Spotted a colour on a website and want its code? An on-screen picker saves guessing. This guide covers both the picker and the manual route.
What is the Screen Color Picker?
Where your browser supports the EyeDropper tool, you can pick a colour from anywhere on screen. Where it does not, the manual hex fallback still gives you a swatch description plus RGB and HSL conversions, and that fallback works everywhere.
How to use it
- If your browser offers EyeDropper, pick a colour from the screen.
- Otherwise type a hex colour manually.
- Read the hex, RGB and HSL results.
Worked example
#FF5733 converts to rgb(255, 87, 51) with its HSL values, even where EyeDropper is unavailable.
What is EyeDropper?
It is a browser feature that lets you click any pixel on screen and read its colour.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there a manual fallback?
Not every browser supports EyeDropper, so a typed hex keeps the tool useful everywhere.
Does picking send data anywhere?
No, the picked colour stays in your browser.
