How to Round Image Corners Without Distorting the Picture

Rounded corners soften a photo, but only when the radius fits the image.

What is the Rounded Image Corners Tool?

The tool limits the radius to half the shorter side, so a very large radius becomes a pill or circle shape instead of breaking the image. In the browser the result is drawn with clipped rounded corners on a canvas and can be downloaded as a PNG. The preview uses a plain gradient because your own photo is not uploaded here.

How to use it

  1. Enter the image size and corner radius
  2. Check the radius actually used
  3. Download the rounded preview

Worked example

Radius 24 on a 400 by 300 image is used as given, with a maximum radius of 150 pixels.

How large should a corner radius be?

Small radii look tidy on cards and avatars, while a radius of half the shorter side turns the image into a circle or pill. Anything larger cannot fit, so it is clamped.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if the radius is too large?

It is clamped to half the shorter side, so the shape stays valid instead of folding in on itself.

Does rounding change the file type?

The download is a PNG, which keeps the transparent corners instead of filling them with white.
