Random Date Guide: Picking a Date Fairly From a Range
Learn how a random point in a date range is chosen and why both ends are included.
What is the Random Date Generator?
Enter a start and an end date and this tool picks one date at random from the whole range, including both ends. It is handy for test data, examples and random scheduling prompts. Dates must be entered in year-month-day form, and the end date must not come before the start date.
How to use it
- Type the start date in YYYY-MM-DD form.
- Type the end date in the same form.
- Click Generate and read the random date in range.
Worked example
For the sample range 2026-01-01 to 2026-12-31, the tool returns a single date within 2026 in year-month-day form; the exact date varies on each run.
Is every date equally likely?
Yes, in principle: the tool picks a random moment across the range, so each day has the same chance, apart from tiny rounding at the edges.
Frequently asked questions
Is the end date included?
Yes. The random pick covers the whole range including both the start and the end date.
What happens if the end date is before the start?
The tool shows a message asking you to fix the range instead of returning a date outside it.
