Race Pace Bands: Your Even Split Plan for Race Day
A pace band turns one big goal into small checkpoints you can actually check mid-race. This generator prints those checkpoints for you.
What is the Race Pace Band Generator?
Type in your goal finish time and pick a race distance, and the tool works out the steady pace per kilometre plus the clock time at each 5K marker. Even pacing is the plan it prints; on a hilly or windy course you may still need to adjust by feel on the day.
How to use it
- Enter your goal finish time in minutes.
- Pick your race distance.
- Click Generate Pace Band and note the 5K splits.
Worked example
A 240-minute marathon needs about 5.69 min/km, so the 5K split is about 28 minutes 26 seconds and the 10K split about 56 minutes 52 seconds.
What pace does a 4-hour marathon need?
About 5 minutes 41 seconds per kilometre (240 minutes divided by 42.195 km), with 5K splits near 28 minutes 26 seconds.
Frequently asked questions
Should I run exactly even splits?
Even splits are a solid starting plan, but hills, wind, and crowds may force small changes; treat the band as a guide.
Does it include a sprint finish?
No. It assumes one steady pace from start to finish, so a fast finish would beat the band.
