QR Code Reader Guide: Reading a QR Code From an Image
Learn how browser-based QR reading works and what to do when your browser cannot detect a code.
What is the QR Code Reader?
Choose an image file that contains a QR code and this tool asks your browser's built-in barcode detector to read it. The decoded text is shown right on the page, and nothing is uploaded anywhere. Not every browser offers this detector yet, so if yours does not, the tool says so plainly instead of pretending to decode anything.
How to use it
- Choose an image file that contains a QR code.
- Click Read QR Code.
- Read the decoded text, or the message explaining why it could not be read.
Worked example
With no sample file, the tool explains what to do: choose an image, and in a supporting browser it shows the decoded text; in a browser without the detector it says the feature is unavailable instead of claiming a result.
Why do some browsers fail to read a QR code image?
Because this kind of reading depends on a detector built into the browser itself. Where that detector is missing, no decoding is possible on the page, so the honest answer is a clear message, not a made-up result.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it say my browser is not supported?
Because QR reading here relies on the browser's own barcode detector, which not every browser includes yet. The tool reports that honestly rather than guessing at the contents.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is read in your browser only and is never sent to a server.
