PIN Generator Guide: Choosing a PIN Length

Understand the trade-off between a short, memorable PIN and a longer, harder-to-guess one.

What is the PIN Generator?

Pick a PIN length and this tool generates that many random digits, using the browser's cryptographic random source where it is available and falling back to the basic random function otherwise. The PIN is shown once on the page and is not stored or sent anywhere. Treat it as a starting point for a test or a device code, and choose a PIN you can remember but others cannot guess.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PIN length of 4, 6 or 8.
  2. Click Generate.
  3. Note the PIN down safely; it is not stored for you.

Worked example

For the sample length of 6, the tool returns a 6-digit PIN; the exact digits vary on each run, and the PIN is not stored.

Is a longer PIN always better?

A longer PIN has far more combinations, but only if it is not a guessable pattern like a birth year or a repeated digit.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PIN stored anywhere?

No. It is generated and shown in your browser only, and closing the page loses it.

What if my browser lacks the cryptographic random source?

The tool falls back to the basic random function, which is fine for test codes but less strong for anything security-critical.
