Periodic Table Explorer: Find an Element in Seconds
The periodic table is huge, but most school questions use the same familiar elements. A quick lookup gives the number and category without hunting the grid.
What is the Periodic Table Explorer?
Type an element name or chemical symbol and the explorer returns that element atomic number and category from a starter set of 30 common elements, from hydrogen through to lead. It is a quick reference for homework and revision, not a full 118-element table, and heavier or rarer elements outside the set will report no match.
How to use it
- Type an element name or symbol, such as Fe or iron.
- Click Look Up Element.
- Read the atomic number and category.
- Try another element to compare categories.
Worked example
Looking up Fe returns Iron, atomic number 26, category transition metal.
What is the atomic number of iron?
26: iron has the symbol Fe and sits in the transition metal category.
Frequently asked questions
How many elements does this explorer cover?
A starter set of 30 common elements; rarer elements outside the set report no match rather than guessing.
Can I search by name as well as symbol?
Yes. Typing iron works just as well as typing Fe, and matching ignores upper and lower case.
