Online Metronome: Keep Time at Any Tempo
A metronome is just a steady gap: 60,000 divided by the tempo gives the milliseconds between beats. Set the tempo and let it tick.
What is the Online Metronome?
Enter a tempo in beats per minute and a number of beats, and the tool works out the gap between beats and lists the beat times. In the browser, a live click track ticks while the page stays open. The gap between beats is 60,000 divided by the tempo.
How to use it
- Enter a tempo in beats per minute.
- Choose how many beats to list.
- Click Start Metronome; in the browser, listen to the click track.
Worked example
At 120 beats per minute, the gap between beats is 500 milliseconds, so 8 beats span 3.5 seconds from the first beat to the last.
What tempo should a beginner use?
Start slow, around 60 to 80 beats per minute, and raise the tempo only when you can play cleanly at the current one.
Frequently asked questions
Does the click work if I close the page?
No. The live click track runs only while the page stays open.
How is the beat gap worked out?
Divide 60,000 milliseconds (one minute) by the beats per minute. At 120 BPM that gives 500 milliseconds.
