OKRs: One Objective, Measurable Results

OKRs work because they separate the ambition from the evidence. The objective inspires, and the key results prove whether it happened.

What is the OKR Builder?

Enter one objective and up to three key results, one per line, and the tool formats them as a readable OKR with a progress note. OKRs are a goal-setting aid, not a performance guarantee, and the key results should be measurable to be useful.

How to use it

  1. Enter one clear objective.
  2. List key results, one per line.
  3. Click Build My OKR.

Worked example

For growing a newsletter audience, the OKR pairs the objective with key results of 5000 subscribers, 12 issues, and a 40% open rate.

How many key results should an objective have?

Two to four is a good range. More than that usually means the objective is really several objectives in disguise.

Frequently asked questions

Must key results have numbers?

Yes, wherever possible. A number makes success checkable instead of a matter of opinion.

How long should an OKR run?

A quarter suits most teams: long enough to make progress, short enough to stay relevant.
