Norway VAT Calculator: Add or Extract MVA at 25%, 15% or 12%
Norway has one standard VAT rate and two reduced rates, and the same amount can be read two ways: net plus VAT, or gross with VAT inside. This guide explains both directions and how each figure is worked out.
What is the Mva-kalkulator — Norway VAT Calculator?
Enter an amount in kroner, pick whether you want to add VAT to a net price or extract VAT from a gross price, and choose the Norwegian VAT rate: 25% standard rate, 15% food rate, or 12% transport and accommodation rate. The tool shows the net amount, the VAT amount and the gross amount. Results are rounded to two decimal places and are general estimates, not tax advice; check the current rules for your goods or services before relying on them.
How to use it
- Enter the amount in kroner.
- Choose Add VAT to go from a net price to a gross price, or Extract VAT to go the other way.
- Pick the VAT rate: 25% standard, 15% food, or 12% transport and accommodation. Use the custom rate box only if you need a different rate.
- Click Calculate VAT and read the net, VAT and gross amounts.
Worked example
A net price of 1000 kr at the 25% standard rate gives 250.00 kr of VAT and a gross price of 1250.00 kr. Extracting VAT from 1250.00 kr at 25% gives back 1000.00 kr net and 250.00 kr VAT.
What is 1000 kr plus 25% Norwegian VAT?
1250.00 kr: the VAT is 25% of 1000 kr, which is 250.00 kr, and 1000 kr plus 250.00 kr is 1250.00 kr.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard Norwegian VAT rate?
25%. The reduced rates are 15% for food and 12% for transport and accommodation, and which one applies depends on the goods or services involved.
How do I extract VAT from a gross price?
Divide the gross price by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. At 25%, divide by 1.25: 1250.00 kr divided by 1.25 is 1000.00 kr net, so the VAT inside is 250.00 kr.
