Maze Generator: A New Puzzle From a Seed Word
A good maze needs exactly one solution and no dead shortcuts. This generator carves passages with a depth-first walk, so every maze is solvable.
What is the Maze Generator?
Choose a maze width and height and a seed word. The tool carves passages with a depth-first walk, so every maze it makes has exactly one route from the entrance at the top-left to the exit at the bottom-right. Use the same seed to regenerate the same maze.
How to use it
- Set the maze width and height in cells.
- Type a seed word.
- Click Generate Maze and trace a route from the top-left entrance to the bottom-right exit.
Worked example
A 9 by 7 maze has 19 characters across and 15 rows of walls and passages, with one entrance at the top-left and one exit at the bottom-right.
Are generated mazes always solvable?
Yes. The carving walk visits every cell exactly once through connected passages, so a route always exists.
Frequently asked questions
Can I regenerate the same maze?
Yes. Use the same width, height, and seed word and you get the same maze again.
What do the characters mean?
The hash marks are walls and the spaces are passages you can walk through.
