Italy VAT Calculator: Add or Extract IVA at 22%, 10%, 5% or 4%
Italian VAT has one standard rate and three reduced rates, and the same amount can be read two ways: net plus VAT, or gross with VAT inside. This guide explains both directions and how each figure is worked out.
What is the Calcolo IVA — Italy VAT Calculator?
Enter an amount, pick whether you want to add VAT to a net price or extract VAT from a gross price, and choose the Italian VAT rate: 22% standard rate, or the reduced rates of 10%, 5% or 4%. The tool shows the net amount, the VAT amount and the gross amount. Results are rounded to two decimal places and are general estimates, not tax advice; check the current rules for your goods or services before relying on them.

Worked example
A net price of €100 at the 22% standard rate gives €22.00 of VAT and a gross price of €122.00. Extracting VAT from €122.00 at 22% gives back €100.00 net and €22.00 VAT.
What is €100 plus 22% Italian VAT?
€122.00: the VAT is 22% of €100, which is €22.00, and €100 plus €22.00 is €122.00.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard Italian VAT rate?
22%. The reduced rates are 10%, 5% and 4%, and which one applies depends on the goods or services involved.
How do I extract VAT from a gross price?
Divide the gross price by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. At 22%, divide by 1.22: €122.00 divided by 1.22 is €100.00 net, so the VAT inside is €22.00.
