Instagram Unfollow Checker: See Who Doesn't Follow You Back, Safely

Instagram never shows you one list of who doesn't follow you back — but your own data export contains both lists. This guide shows how to compare them without handing your password to a stranger.

What is the Instagram Unfollow Checker?

Most unfollow checkers demand your Instagram password first, which is exactly how accounts get stolen, and Instagram treats those apps as a terms violation. This checker takes the safe route: it reads the data export Instagram itself gives you, compares the followers and following lists inside it, and shows who does not follow you back, who follows you without being followed back (fans), your mutual follows, and your pending sent requests. Everything runs locally in your browser — the ZIP is never uploaded and the tool never asks for a login. It parses real ZIP entries itself: stored entries directly, and deflated entries through the browser's DecompressionStream where available. If your export's structure differs from the expected followers and following files, the tool says so and lists the files it did find instead of guessing. It is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta, and unfollowing anyone is your own decision — the tool only reports the lists.

How to use it

  1. Download your data from Instagram: app Settings, Accounts Centre, Your information and permissions, Download your information, choose Some of your information, tick Followers and following, and pick JSON format.
  2. Wait for Instagram's email, then choose the unopened ZIP above — or paste the ZIP as base64 in the second box.
  3. Pick which lists to show, then click Check Unfollows.
  4. Read the counts and names: not following back, fans, mutual follows, and pending requests. Nothing leaves your device.

Worked example

An export with followers alice, bob, and carol, and following bob, carol, dave, and erin, reports 2 not following back (dave, erin), 1 fan (alice), 2 mutual follows, and 1 pending request (frank).

How can an unfollow checker work without my Instagram login?

Instagram lets every user download a copy of their own account data, including the complete followers and following lists. Comparing those two lists from your own file gives the same answer a login-based app would scrape — obtained safely, with your permission, and without ever typing a password into a third-party tool.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to log in or share my Instagram password?

No, never. You download your data from Instagram yourself and open the file here. There is no login form and no password field anywhere in the process.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The ZIP is read and compared entirely in your browser tab. Close the tab and nothing remains.

What if my export looks different?

The tool looks for the followers and following JSON files Instagram exports. If it cannot find them, it says so plainly and lists the files it did find, instead of guessing at an answer.

Can it show my pending follow requests too?

Yes. Requests you sent that were never accepted are included in your export and shown as pending requests in the results.

Should I unfollow everyone who doesn't follow me back?

Not necessarily. Some are brands, creators, or news accounts you follow for their content. Use the list to decide for yourself, account by account.
