Image to Text OCR: Read Printed Text From a Photo
Typing out a page by hand is slow. Browser OCR reads clear printed text for you, privately on your own device.
What is the Image to Text OCR?
OCR runs in your browser via the Tesseract.js engine; first use downloads language data; works best on clear, high-contrast printed text; handwriting and heavily stylized fonts may fail; the image never leaves the device. Upload a photo or scan, let the engine read it, and copy the extracted text for notes, quotes, or documents. Because everything runs locally, a receipt, page, or sign can be read without sending the image to a server.
How to use it
- Choose an image with clear, high-contrast printed text.
- Press Extract Text and wait for the progress note to finish.
- Copy the extracted text and correct any misread characters.
Worked example
Upload a clear, high-contrast photo of printed text and the tool extracts the text in your browser without uploading the image.
How does browser OCR work?
The Tesseract.js engine, loaded in the browser, analyses the image and recognises its printed characters. First use downloads language data, then later runs reuse it.
Frequently asked questions
Does my image get uploaded?
No. Recognition runs in your browser, so the image never leaves the device.
Why did handwriting fail?
The engine is trained mainly for printed text, so handwriting and heavily stylized fonts are much harder to read reliably.
