Hidden Data in Your Photos: What EXIF Reveals
A photo file can reveal more than the picture itself. Stripping metadata protects privacy before sharing.
What is the Image Metadata Remover?
Photos often carry camera settings, dates, and sometimes location data hidden in their metadata. This tool loads only the pixels in your browser and writes a fresh file, so EXIF data, embedded profiles, and tags are not carried over. Note that re-encoding a JPG can slightly soften it, so keep an original if quality matters most.
How to use it
- Upload an image
- Choose the output format
- Download the cleaned image
Worked example
With JPEG selected, a photo is re-encoded as a fresh JPEG whose pixels look the same but whose EXIF and location tags are gone.
What metadata do photos contain?
Camera model, settings, date, and sometimes GPS location, depending on the device and app that took the photo.
Frequently asked questions
Does this remove location data?
Yes, location stored in EXIF is dropped because only pixels are copied to the new file.
Will the cleaned image look different?
Visually it should match, though JPG re-encoding can add very slight softening.
