How to Improve a Dull Photo With Simple Filters

A few small adjustments beat heavy editing. Here is a gentle starting recipe.

What is the Image Filter Editor?

Use sliders in spirit: enter percentage values for brightness, contrast, saturation, and grayscale to restyle a photo in your browser. Values above 100 strengthen an effect and values below 100 soften it, while 100 means no change. The filtered copy downloads as a new image, leaving the original untouched.

How to use it

  1. Upload an image
  2. Set brightness, contrast, saturation, and grayscale
  3. Download the filtered image

Worked example

At 100 percent brightness, contrast, and saturation with 0 grayscale, the filter string leaves the photo unchanged, giving a safe starting point to tweak from.

Why does my photo look washed out after filtering?

Brightness or contrast pushed too far flattens detail, so move in small steps and compare with the original.

Frequently asked questions

What does 100 percent mean?

No change for brightness, contrast, and saturation. Higher values strengthen, lower values soften.

How do I make a black-and-white photo?

Set grayscale to 100 and keep the other values at 100.
