How to Crop an Image to the Right Region
A good crop removes distraction and centres the subject. Here is how to frame it.
What is the Image Cropper?
Enter the top-left position and the width and height of the rectangle you want to keep. The tool crops that region in your browser and downloads it as a new image. If the rectangle extends past the image edge, the extra area comes out blank, so keep the crop inside the original dimensions.
How to use it
- Upload an image
- Enter the crop position and size
- Download the cropped image
Worked example
A 400 by 300 crop from the top-left corner keeps a 120,000 square pixel region at a 1.33 to 1 aspect ratio.
How do I choose crop dimensions?
Match the crop to where it will be used, for example a wide banner needs a wide rectangle, while a profile photo needs a square.
Frequently asked questions
What do x and y mean?
They are the pixel coordinates of the top-left corner of the crop, measured from the image top-left.
What if the crop goes past the edge?
Any part outside the image is left blank, so check the size against the original dimensions.
