How Before-and-After Comparisons Help Viewers Judge a Change

A side-by-side view only works if both sides share the same frame and scale.

What is the Image Compare Slider?

The tool converts your split percentage into exact pixel widths for a 600-pixel-wide frame, so a 50 percent split really is half and half. The browser preview draws the two sides and a divider line at that point. It is a planning preview with plain colours, not a slider you drag over your own photos.

How to use it

  1. Label the before and after sides
  2. Set the split percentage
  3. Preview the divider position

Worked example

A 50 percent split on a 600-pixel frame gives 300 pixels on the left and 300 pixels on the right, with the divider in the middle.

Why keep both sides the same size and position?

Because any shift in framing can look like a change in the subject itself. Lock the frame, then only the edit should differ.

Frequently asked questions

Why use a split view?

Because seeing both versions in one frame, divided by a line, makes small differences easier to spot than flipping between two images.

Can I drag the divider here?

Not in this preview. The split is set by number, and the divider is drawn at that exact position.
