How to Match Colours From a Photo

Sampling a pixel gives you the exact code to reuse in a design. Here is how to use it.

What is the Image Color Picker?

Upload an image and enter pixel coordinates to sample one point, or open the image in your browser and read the colour at that spot. The tool reports the hex code and RGB values for the sampled pixel, which you can copy into design tools. Coordinates start at the top-left corner of the image.

How to use it

  1. Upload an image
  2. Enter the x and y pixel position
  3. Read the hex and RGB values

Worked example

Sampling at x 50, y 50 reports the exact colour of that pixel as a hex code and RGB triplet in the browser.

Hex or RGB, which should I copy?

Hex for web and CSS, RGB when a tool asks for separate red, green, and blue channels.

Frequently asked questions

What are x and y?

Pixel coordinates from the top-left corner, so 0, 0 is the very first pixel.

Why does the colour differ slightly from what I see?

Screens and compression can shift a pixel by a shade, so treat the sampled value as the stored pixel colour.
