Hangman Game: Guess the Word Before the Lives Run Out

Hangman rewards common letters first and careful thinking second. Start with vowels and frequent consonants, then use the pattern to narrow the rest.

What is the Hangman Game?

Pick a word category and guess letters: correct letters fill their places in the word, wrong letters cost a life, and six wrong guesses ends the game. In the browser you play with a real alphabet of clickable buttons and a gallows count that grows with every miss.

How to use it

  1. Choose a word category.
  2. Click Start Hangman.
  3. In the browser, tap alphabet buttons to guess letters.
  4. Fill the whole word before six wrong guesses end the game.

Worked example

With the guesses a, e, and t, a sample animal word shows its matching letters and counts only the misses against six lives.

How many wrong guesses do you get in Hangman?

Six. Each wrong letter costs one life, and the game ends when the lives run out or the whole word is revealed.

Frequently asked questions

What letters should I guess first?

Vowels like a and e, then frequent consonants like t, n, and r, since they appear in the most words.

Does guessing the same letter twice cost a life?

No. Repeated guesses are ignored here, so only a new wrong letter costs a life.
