Making a Short Frame Animation

A short animation is just a set of still frames shown in order, with timing doing most of the work.

What is the GIF Maker?

Set frame count, size, and delay, then build frames on canvas in your browser, preview the playback, and export each frame as a PNG. Limit stated plainly: this is a frame builder and PNG exporter, not a full animated-GIF encoder, so it never claims to produce a single animated GIF file.

How to use it

  1. Set frame count and size
  2. Set the delay between frames
  3. Preview playback and export PNG frames

Worked example

Builds a 4-frame animation at 480 x 360 px with 500 ms per frame, 2000 ms total playback, exported as PNG frames.

How many frames make motion feel smooth?

More frames and shorter delays feel smoother, but even four well-spaced frames can read as motion.

Frequently asked questions

Does this make a real animated GIF file?

No, it builds and exports frames as PNG images; it does not encode a single animated GIF file.

How long will my animation play?

Frame count multiplied by delay, shown above as total playback time.
