Furniture Fit: Doorways, Diagonals, and Turning Space
The smallest dimension decides the doorway, and the length decides the room. This post explains both checks and the diagonal trap.
What is the Furniture Fit Calculator?
Enter the doorway width, the furniture's smallest dimension, and the space it must fit into, and the tool checks both: doorway clearance and room fit. It is a planning check, not a guarantee — measure diagonals and turning space on site too.
How to use it
- Measure the doorway width in centimetres.
- Enter the furniture's smallest dimension and its length.
- Enter the available space and click Check Fit.
Worked example
75 cm furniture through an 80 cm doorway fits with 5 cm clearance, and 180 cm fits in a 200 cm space.
Why check the diagonal?
A piece that fits straight on may still jam on a turn, since its diagonal is longer than any single side.
Frequently asked questions
Should doors come off?
Removing a door can add a few centimetres of clearance and is worth trying before giving up.
What about lifts and stairs?
Measure every pinch point on the route, not just the final doorway.
