EV Trip Cost: Distance, Consumption, and Price in One Line

EV running costs look confusing until the three inputs are separated. Distance, consumption, and price multiply into a single trip figure.

What is the EV Trip Cost Calculator?

EV trip cost is distance times consumption times electricity price. This calculator multiplies those three numbers, so home charging and public charging can be compared by changing the price. Real consumption rises with speed, cold weather, and load.

How to use it

  1. Enter the trip distance in kilometres.
  2. Enter consumption in kWh per 100 km.
  3. Enter the electricity price and click Calculate Trip Cost.

Worked example

300 km at 16 kWh per 100 km uses 48 kWh, costing 14.4 at 0.3 per kWh.

How much does a 300 km EV trip cost at 16 kWh/100 km and 0.3 per kWh?

14.4, for 48 kWh of electricity in total.

Frequently asked questions

Why do public chargers cost more?

Public charging includes network, site, and speed costs, so the per-kWh price is usually well above home electricity.

How do I lower trip cost?

Charge at home where possible, drive steadily, and pre-condition the battery while still plugged in.
