Drywall Sheets: Counting Sheets for Walls and Ceilings
Sheet size decides the count as much as the room does. This post shows the division, the allowance, and how offcuts can help.
What is the Drywall Sheets Calculator?
Enter the area to cover and the area of one sheet, and the tool adds a 10 percent cutting allowance before rounding up to whole sheets. The allowance is shown separately, and offcuts from one wall can often cover small areas elsewhere.
How to use it
- Measure the area in square metres.
- Enter the area of one sheet.
- Click Count Sheets.
Worked example
30 sq m at 2.88 sq m per sheet needs 10.42 sheets exactly, or 11.46 with waste, rounded up to 12 sheets.
Does sheet orientation matter?
Yes for waste, since matching sheet length to wall height can cut the number of joints and offcuts.
Frequently asked questions
Should ceilings use a different allowance?
Ceilings often waste a little more around lights and edges, so a slightly larger allowance is sensible there.
Can I reuse offcuts?
Often, yes. Large offcuts cover small walls, cupboards, and bulkheads.
