Dog Food Portions: How Much Is in the Bowl?

Feeding guides on packets are starting points for an average dog. Weight and activity give a more personal estimate than a single packet table.

What is the Dog Food Portions Calculator?

Enter your dog's weight, activity level, and the food's energy per 100 grams, and the tool estimates daily calories and grams. This is a guide based on standard resting-energy formulas, not veterinary advice, so adjust for body condition and check with your vet for puppies, illness, or weight problems.

How to use it

  1. Enter your dog's weight.
  2. Pick activity level and food energy.
  3. Click Calculate Dog Food Portions.

Worked example

For a 20 kg moderately active dog on 350 kcal per 100 g food, resting energy is about 662.02 kcal, daily need about 1059.23 kcal, and daily food about 302.64 g.

Should I feed the full amount at once?

No. Split the daily amount across two meals for most adult dogs, and adjust if weight creeps up or down.

Frequently asked questions
