Dice Maths: Rolls, Totals, and Valid Ranges

A dice total is only believable inside its range. This guide shows how to check a roll at a glance.

What is the Dice Roller?

Dice are the quickest randomiser in games, and this tool keeps the maths visible. Choose how many dice to roll and how many sides each has, and it lists every roll and adds them up. The total always falls between the number of dice and that number times the side count.

How to use it

  1. Choose how many dice to roll.
  2. Choose how many sides each die has.
  3. Click Roll Dice.
  4. Read each roll and the total.

Worked example

For 2 six-sided dice, the tool reports two rolls and a total between 2 and 12.

How do you check a dice total?

Add the shown rolls and confirm the sum sits between the dice count and the dice count times the side count.
