Egg Estimates: Hens Do Not Lay Every Day
A healthy flock rarely gives one egg per hen per day. The lay rate captures the realistic share of hens laying on an average day.
What is the Chicken Egg Estimator?
Enter the number of hens and their lay rate, and the tool estimates eggs per day and per week. This is an estimate, since laying varies with breed, age, light, and season, and it is not a production guarantee.
How to use it
- Enter the number of hens.
- Enter the lay rate as a percentage.
- Click Estimate Eggs.
Worked example
For 10 hens at an 80% lay rate, the estimate is 8 eggs per day and 56 per week.
Why does laying drop in winter?
Shorter days, moulting, and cold all reduce laying, even in healthy hens, so winter estimates should use a lower rate.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a guarantee?
No. It is an estimate from the rate you enter. Breed and age shift real results a great deal.
What lay rate should I use?
Use your flock's recent average, or 70 to 85% as a starting guess for healthy adult layers in good conditions.
