Breathing Timer: Slow Down With a Pattern You Can Follow

A few slow breaths can change the feel of a busy day. This timer turns a breathing pattern into a timed session you can actually follow.

What is the Breathing Exercise Timer?

Pick a breathing pattern and a number of rounds, and the tool lays out every phase of the session with its total time. In the browser a live countdown walks you through inhale, hold, and exhale while the page stays open. It is a simple way to slow down for a few minutes without needing an app or an account.

How to use it

  1. Choose a breathing pattern, such as 4-4-4-4.
  2. Enter how many rounds you want.
  3. Click Start Breathing Session and follow the phases.

Worked example

A 4-4-4-4 session of 4 rounds lasts 64 seconds, with each round taking 16 seconds.

How long is a 4-4-4-4 breathing session of 4 rounds?

Each round takes 16 seconds (4 in, 4 hold, 4 out, 4 hold), so 4 rounds take 64 seconds in total.

Frequently asked questions

What does 4-7-8 mean?

Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 7, and breathe out for 8. It is a longer, slower pattern than box breathing.

Does the timer work if I close the page?

No. The live countdown runs only while the page stays open, and it does not send notifications outside the browser.
