Braille Translator: From Print Letters to Dot Patterns
Braille packs a whole alphabet into six dots per cell. Seeing print and patterns side by side makes that system click fast.
What is the Braille Translator?
Type ordinary text and get the matching braille dot patterns as Unicode characters. Letters map to their standard six-dot cells, spaces become the blank cell, and digits use the number sign followed by the letter cell for that digit. It is a handy way to preview braille text, teach the alphabet, or check a short label before embossing.
How to use it
- Type letters, spaces, or digits.
- Click Translate to Braille.
- Read the dot patterns from left to right.
- Copy the braille string where you need it.
Worked example
Translating ab gives ⠁⠃.
What is the braille for ab?
The letter a maps to the single-dot cell and b maps to its two-dot cell, so ab becomes the two-pattern string for a followed by b.
Frequently asked questions
How are digits written in braille?
A number sign cell comes first, followed by the letter cell for that digit, so 1 uses the a cell after the number sign.
What does a space become?
The blank braille cell, which keeps words separated in the pattern string.
