Baseboards: Counting Boards Around Doors and Corners
Doors break the run and corners eat length, so the count needs more than a perimeter division. This post shows both adjustments.
What is the Baseboard Calculator?
Enter the perimeter minus door openings and the length of one baseboard, and the tool adds a 10 percent allowance for cuts and corners before rounding up. The allowance is shown separately from the exact count.
How to use it
- Measure the perimeter and subtract door openings.
- Enter the length of one baseboard.
- Click Count Baseboards.
Worked example
14 m at 2.4 m per board needs 5.83 boards exactly, or 6.42 with waste, rounded up to 7 boards.
Do I subtract every doorway?
Yes, subtract the width of each doorway where no baseboard will run, since doors need the gap.
Frequently asked questions
What about built-in cupboards?
Subtract runs hidden behind fixed units if the boards will never be seen or fitted there.
Should lengths match wall lengths?
It helps waste, since a board that spans a wall needs no join.
