Making an initials avatar
Initials avatars are everywhere in apps and forums because they are instant and personal without a photo. This guide explains the simple recipe.
What is the Avatar Maker?
Enter a name and colours, and this tool builds a square avatar showing the person's initials on a coloured background. It is a placeholder profile picture, not a portrait, and it works best with short names.
How to use it
- Type a full name.
- Pick background and text colours and a shape.
- In a browser, download the avatar.
Worked example
Alex Morgan becomes AM in white on a navy circle, at 512 by 512 pixels.
Why use initials instead of a photo?
They identify an account at a glance while keeping things private and consistent.
