Audio Speed Changer: Faster Listening, New Duration First
Speeding up a recording saves time, but only if you know how much time it actually saves.
What is the Audio Speed Changer?
Audio Speed Changer lets you listen faster or slower without changing pitch in the usual browser playback sense, using the Web Audio playback rate in a browser. Enter the original length and a speed, and the tool works out the new duration at once, which is handy for lectures, interviews, and long recordings. Outside a browser it shows that duration maths, so you can plan before you listen.
How to use it
- Enter the original audio length in seconds.
- Choose the playback speed you want.
- Read the new duration, then play at that speed in a browser.
Worked example
Enter 120s at 1.5x and the tool returns 80s, the same maths it uses for any length and speed.
How long is 120 seconds at 1.5x speed?
Eighty seconds: divide the original length by the speed.
Frequently asked questions
Does faster playback change the pitch?
Browser playback-rate playback can shift perceived pitch at extreme speeds, but at common speeds like 1.25x or 1.5x speech stays easy to follow.
What speeds work best for speech?
Most listeners find 1.25x comfortable for lectures and 1.5x workable for familiar material.
