Image Alt Text: What It Is and How to Write It
Alt text describes images for screen readers and search engines. Learn when it is required, what good alt text looks like, and what to skip.
What is the Image Alt Text Checker?
The Image Alt Text Checker lists every image tag in pasted HTML and flags missing or empty alt attributes — a common accessibility and SEO gap.
How to use it
- Paste your page HTML.
- Click Check alt text.
- Write alt text for every flagged image.
Worked example
An article with 6 images and 2 missing alt attributes gets a clear fix list.
Does alt text help SEO?
Yes, indirectly — it helps images appear in image search and improves accessibility, which search engines value.
Frequently asked questions
What makes good alt text?
A short, specific description of the image's content or function — not a keyword list.
Should decorative images have alt text?
Give them empty alt (alt="") so screen readers skip them.
